On Saturday, April 29, St. Luke's held its annual Fathers & Friends Breakfast. The event offers a chance to gather for fellowship, breakfast, and meaningful conversation. A special guest is featured and interviewed by the Head of School every year. This year, Mary Carter asked her husband, Chris Carter, to do the hosting honors while she attended as a guest.

Chris, a partner in Hinckley Allen's Commercial Litigation Practice Group, was joined by special guest Jeff Sanders, a St. Luke's parent, former Head of School Search Committee member, and a respected leader at Heidrick & Struggles. Together, they led a discussion titled Contemporary Leadership — How corporate boards & CEOs are thinking about leadership during a complicated and rapidly changing time.

“This is my second time attending Fathers & Friends,” said SLS parent Conner McGee. “I appreciate the format. There is time to both socialize and enjoy an intellectual conversation. Chris and Jeff gave us a look behind the curtain to see how some of the world’s largest companies select their leaders. These are people influencing billions and shaping the world economy. It was fascinating to learn more about the process. I always knew there had to be a Wizard of Oz pulling the right levers and helping corporate boards make these major decisions. Now I know Jeff is that wizard.”

SLS parent Jason Mudd found the event “both informative and engaging.” He added that “Jeff did a tremendous job balancing storytelling with facts/details. Everyone knows the names of today’s top CEOs – Tim Cook, Jamie Dimon, Satya Nadella. What’s not well known is what takes place behind the scenes in boardrooms where the decisions are made to hire for these crucial leadership positions. What separates one top candidate from another? What types of tests and questions must be addressed to make sure organizations hire the right fit? Jeff gave everyone insights that were truly compelling."
